Greater Boston PFLAG invites you to participate in SpeakOut's Speaker Training on Saturday & Sunday, 16 & 17 September 2006 in Jamaica Plain (a neighbourhood of Boston). Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the flyer and registration form. Forward your registration information directly to SpeakOut and tell them PFLAG sent you!
If you train at the SpeakOut training, you will qualify to speak for PFLAG as well. We are in need of new speakers! Particularly, parents of GLBT children.
Whether you are a new or veteran speaker, we are sure you will find the SpeakOut Speaker Training a rewarding and memorable experience.
Greater Boston PFLAG's Statewide Safe Schools & Communities Project began in 1993 with funding from the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. In the beginning, PFLAG parents met with high school administrators and faculty to share stories about their gay and lesbian children. Over the years, the project expanded and today includes anti-gay name-calling and bullying training for administrators, teachers and students in middle and high schools. We are developing an elementary resource guide in collaboration with GLSEN that has lessons inclusive of LGBT families.
Along with our school training, we've broadened our outreach to include religious, civic and professional organisations and corporations. We collaborate with community leaders to design forums that focus on LGBT safety. Typically, our volunteer speakers conduct about 175 speaking engagements per year with the majority of them in schools.
We hope you enjoy the training!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
